Voluntary Recall of Certain Fire Extiguishers

Chubb has announced a voluntary recall to replace certain Chubb, Quell, Fire Smart, Motrocraft and Flameguard dry powder 1kg, 1.5kg, 2.3kg, 2.5kg and 4.5kg fire extinguishers.

With more than 60 years of experience in the fire safety industry we have built a reputation for reliable, high quality products that comply with Australian Standards.  We pride ourselves on our products and, through internal testing, recently discovered that a proportion of fire extinguishers do not meet the filling capacity requirement of the Australian Standards. As a result, the affected fire extinguishers may not release a sufficient steady stream of powder.

The recall affects dry powder 1kg, 1.5kg, 2.3kg, 2.5kg and 4.5kg fire extinguishers purchased from 16 February 2010. Affected units are marked on the front label with the serial number:

Any 1kg, 1.5kg, 2.3kg, 2.5kg and 4.5kg fire extinguisher purchased before this date or with a different serial number is not subject to recall.

To check if your fire extinguisher has been recalled check the serial number next to the Australian Standards tick of approval. If the serial number is between the numbers in the table above please return it to the store or company you purchased it from for a certified replacement or speak to your local Chubb representative.

This replacement program was initiated by Chubb because the affected fire extinguisher in some cases may not meet Australian Standards.

Chubb has voluntarily undertaken the recall because it takes pride in its quality products and its commitment to its customers. Chubb is advising the relevant State and Federal authorities.
